CarPC Introduction

“Why!” i hear you say, “Why would anyone want to put a computer in their car?”.

When i started this unusual hobby i though the same thing, why make things difficult for myself when there are hundreds of perfectly good, reliable headunits out there?. Well for one i like a good challenge, i also want more than a box that lets you listen to music, a computer can give you more and at the same price as a top branded headunit if you play your cards right.

Here is a list of some of the capabilities of a Car-PC:

Audio playback
with the advantage of being able to store thousands of songs in your car.

Video playback
why stop at audio when you could watch music videos (when stationary)

Satellite navigation
far better than shouting at a loved one every time you get lost.

Phone control

Bluetooth hands free, with full functions like on-screen telephone book.

Photo album
download images directly from your camera and share the results with friends.

Fully customisable interface
use pre designed from end skins or create your own.

Speed camera detector

another function of satellite navigation.

OBDII support

so you can monitor your cars vital systems in real time.

Car control

control (non critical) car systems without filling your dash with buttons.

Rear view camera

or anywhere you can fit one. With the ability to record footage.

5.1 surround sound

for when you want your own personal cinema (whilst stationary)

Games

calm yourself down with solitaire when you are stuck in stationary traffic.

Mobile internet

check on your emails anywhere you go.

DAB radio

not entirely sucessful yet, but it will get there.

Now, without further ado, me i present you with the ginuea pig for my latest Car-PC creation. Use the menu down the side to navigate.
